There's a lot, and boy do I mean a lot, that can be debated in the sports world, but there's one fact that absolutely can not be put up for debate. Like it or not, the Boston Celtics are the greatest basketball team in the world.
Go ahead, try and debate me. Championships? They have them (as a matter of fact, they've got 17 of them). Legends? They've produced 32 Naismith Hall of Famers. Memorable moments? We could go on and on regarding that category.
Sure, plenty of people and opposing fans will try to tell you otherwise. Some say the Los Angeles Lakers are the greatest franchise in the NBA? Well, sorry, but they last time I looked up to the rafters of your celebrity lounge (a.k.a. Staples Center), I only see 16 banners. Does 16 equal 17? I thought so. Come back to me when you do, and then we'll talk.
The simple fact of the matter is this: the Celtics are great. So amazingly great.
Believe it or not, there's a group of people who have literally stolen that team right out from under us. Ironically, it's the very owners and players who did it, and they like to call it the NBA Lockout.
We won't truly be happy until we get our team back, but while we wait for billionaires and millionaires to work out their differences, we're going to take you on a journey. A journey through the history of the greatest basketball team ever.
But here's where things get interesting. We aren't going to give you one long post with a brief history of the Celtics. Oh no, that would be way too easy. Instead, we're going to write an in-depth review of every single season played in franchise history. Yep, you read that right. From 1946 through 2010, we'll cover every precious moment.
As you might expect, this could take a while, but hey, with the lockout and all, we've got time. We'll start in the first week of December and will post the year-by-year history of the team in one-week intervals. Get ready, Boston Celtics fans, for a history lesson that won't put you to sleep.
