Is Shaquille O'Neal's Hip Injury Just An Excuse To Play Goalie?

Despite resting two games due to a "hip injury"Boston Celtics center Shaquille O'Neal may be contemplating a change in sport - or at least making it look like he is.

O'Neal entered Boston's TD Garden prior to Tuesday evening's game against the Cleveland Cavaliers wearing an old style goalie mask adorned with the Boston Bruins logo. O'Neal's new head wear was first reported on Twitter by A. Sherrod Blakey from Comcast SportsNet New England around 6pm:

"Watch out Tuukka Rask and Tim Thomas. One of my peeps at the Garden tells me Shaq just rolled into the Garden w/a #Bruins goalie mask on."

The Score's The Basketball Jones has photo evidence of the unmistakable O'Neal "rocking" the mask near what looks to be the lower media and players entrance of the Garden.

Shaq may find that his current hip injury may keep him from fulfilling any goalie aspirations donning the mask might awake in him. Hip injuries have hindered many a NHL goaltender, including Tim Thomas, who had hip surgery this past off-season. Thomas had a shaky 2009-10 season with the hip injury, but has rebounded to be one of the league's best goalies this season.
