Jermaine O’Neal has decided against having surgery on his injured knee. The news was broken by CSN sideline reporter Greg Dickerson during Wednesday’s contest between the Celtics and Pistons.
O’Neal was set to decide on Tuesday, but could not meet with Danny Ainge and other Celtics personnel to discuss the issue as he was stuck in New York due to inclement weather.
While the injured center will avoid surgery, it does seem as though some extended rehab is in his future. O’Neal will miss four weeks while trying to get healthy for the Celtics’ eventual playoff run.
