"The Truth" has been Paul Pierce's nickname since 2001, when his now-teammate Shaquille O'Neal, after the Celtics beat his Lakers, said to a reporter: "My name is Shaquille O'Neal and Paul Pierce is the [expletive] truth. Quote me on that and don't take nothing out ... Paul Pierce is the truth."
