The Boston Bruins and the Washington Capitals are headed to overtime in Game 7 of their Eastern Conference quarterfinal series. Neither team was able to light the lamp in the third period, though both teams had their chances.
The Capitals outshot the Bruins in the period for the first time all game. Tim Thomas turned back 12 shots against, though Johnny Boychuk may have came up with the play of the game when he blocked an Alex Ovechkin one-timer on an open net with his outstretched right leg.
The Bruins, by contrast, had just six shots against Braden Holtby in the third period, after combined for 25 through the first 40 minutes. Dennis Seidenberg had a great opportunity to beat a well-screened Holtby on a long slapshot, but Holtby somehow got a glove on it despite an obstructed view.
Fittingly, this series will be decided by one goal after six straight games decided by the slimmest of margins.
