The Boston Bruins called up goaltender Anton Khudobin from AHL Providence on Monday (via WEEI).
With Tuukka Rask still trying to recover from a groin injury and recent signing Marty Turco ineligible for the playoffs, Boston needed an option to backup Tim Thomas for the NHL playoffs. If Rask can't return, Khudobin will likely be that backup goalie. Turco is ineligible for the playoffs due to being signed after the NHL trade deadline from EC Red Bull Salzburg in the Austrian First Division. Khudobin himself had an injury early last month. After returning from the wrist injury, Khudobin went 2-2 for Providence.
In the AHL this season, Khudobin is 21-19-3 with a 2.61 GAA and .919 save percentage. He could see time in one of the three final regular season games for Boston. Khudobin will be with the team on Tuesday when they play Pittsburgh.
