Johnny Boychuk, who recently suffered a mild concussion, will be out again Thursday night for the Bruins, as will fellow defenseman and recent acquisition Mike Mottau. Greg Zanon, acquired by Boston at the trade deadline, will make his team debut as well. Naoko Funayama, the Bruins reporter for NESN, updated each player's status via Twitter.
Boychuk has been out since taking a nasty hit on Saturday from Ottawa's Chris Neil, and it's unclear when he will return to the ice. With Boychuk out and Joe Corvo struggling, the Bruins made an aggressive push to acquire a pair of veteran defensemen in Mottau and Zanon.
Mottau debuted for Boston on Tuesday night against Ottawa, collecting one shot on goal and nearly 11 minutes of ice time. He'll take a seat tonight in favor of Zanon, who should fit into head coach Claude Julien's system. The 31-year old Zanon has some familiarity with the Bruins organization, having been drafted by Ottawa in 2000, when current Boston general manager Peter Chiarelli was a member of the Senators' front office.
