In a surprise move, Boston Bruins head coach Claude Julien announced on Wednesday that backup goal tender Tuukka Rask would be between the pipes for tonight's clash with the Buffalo Sabres. Julien's reasoning for giving Rask that nod over Tim Thomas are unknown. Thomas got the start in the Bruins' last two games.
Rask's last game in net came back on Feb. 2 against the Carolina Hurricanes, when he saved 90% of the shots that came his way. Despite his efforts, the Bruins lost the game 3-0. That loss put Rask at 0-2-1 in his last three starts. His last win came back on Jan. 16 against the Florida Panthers.
Despite his struggles of late, Rask has been fantastic this season for the Bruins. He his currently third in the NHL with a .936 save percentage and goals-against average (1.88). Tuukka's overall record this year as Thomas's backup has been a solid 11-6-2.
