The Boston Bruins have reportedly agreed to a three-year contract extension with defenseman Johnny Boychuk.
TSN in Canada reports that Boychuk's deal is expected to be worth approximately $3.36 million per season, keeping the 28-year old in Boston.
Boychuk, a physical, 6-foot-2, 225-pound defenseman with a hard slap shot, has registered 20:31 of ice time per game this season, notching three goals and seven assists for 10 points while maintaining a plus-23 rating. For his career, Boychuk has 11 goals and 30 assists for 41 points. In parts of five seasons, Boychuk has never had a negative plus-minus.
Without the extension, Boychuk would have become an unrestricted free agent following this season.
The Bruins play the Rangers Tuesday night in what promises to be a fiercely-contested battle.
