After winning their respective league's championship, it's by tradition that team gets to go to the White House to be honored by the President of the United States. On Saturday, the day was set on when President Obama will be honoring the 2011 Stanley Cup Champion Boston Bruins.
On January 23, the Bruins will travel to Washington D.C. to be honored by the President for defeating the Vancouver Canucks in seven games for the Stanley Cup Title. The B's will play the Washington Capitals the following night.
This will mark the first sports team from Boston that President Obama will honor at the White House. President Bush was still in office when the Celtics went to the White House after winning the NBA Finals in 2008. Obama will be honoring the Boston Bruins foundation, which has raised more than $7 million for various charities in the New England area.
