Marc Savard Placed On Long Term Injured Reserve, Will Miss Remainder Of Season

Boston Bruins general manager Peter Chiarelli confirmed everyone's worst suspicions Monday afternoon in a press conference at TD Garden: center Marc Savard, who suffered his fourth concussion and second in ten months at the hands of former teammate Matt Hunwick two weeks ago, has been placed on long-term injured reserve and will miss the rest of the Bruins' season.

Savard's pro-rated $5 million cap hit is now off the books for the Bruins, and it couldn't have come at a better time, with the team needing to acquire a power play quarterback and puck-moving defenseman by the Feb. 28 trade deadline to make any real noise this postseason.

Normally I'd have something snarky to say about this, but it's been too painful to watch Savard go through all this.
