BOSTON - Boston and Montreal traded goals in the first period and the Bruins and Canadiens are tied, 1-1, at the end of the first period here at TD Garden.
The B's scored first, as Benoit Pouliot found the back of the net for his sixth goal of the season at 12:13 of the first period. Pouliot's goal was assisted by Rich Peverley, who extended his streak of one or more points in a game to four games. Montreal answered with a goal from Tomas Plekanec at 13:26 of the period, assisted by Mike Cammalleri and Travis Moen. The goal was Plekanec's seventh of the season for the Canadiens.
Tim Thomas and Carey Price had equally consistent performances in the opening period, with both goalies turning away eight shots in the period. Neither team recorded a penalty in the opening 20 minutes.
