Bruins Vs. Jets: Winnipeg Pegs Bruins For Two Goals For 2-1 Lead After First Period

Less than 10 minutes into the first, Evander Kane and Dustin Byfuglien play a little give and go and Kane deeked Thomas out of net and put it past his leg pad to make it 1-0. This year, every game that Kane has scored in, Winnipeg has gone on to win. They are 7-0-0 when he has put the puck in the back of the net.

The second goal came just 39 seconds later. Byfuglien conjured up a little bit of magic and slapped the puck in to put the Jets up 2-0.

The Jets didn't go unscathed however. Byfuglien was sent to the penalty box at 16:00 minutes for interference. The Bruins power play, which was 13/74 (17.6%) was able to capitalize again, via captain Zdeno Chara. With 16:38 to go in the period, Chara fired a shot from the blueline that hit Jets goaltender Ondrej Pavelec in the shoulder, but proceeded to the back of the net to cut Winnipeg's lead in half. That was Chara's fourth goal of the season.

Tim Thomas stopped 10-of-12 shots and Pavelec allowed only 1-of-15 in on his end.

Former Bruins forward Blake Wheeler earned a secondary assist on Kane's goal, much to the chagrin of Bruins fans. That was his 11th assist of the season for the Jets.

The teams will skate 4-on-4 for the first 23 seconds of the second period before the Jets will have an abbreviated 1:01 power play.
