Hockey East fans can take delight in what happened in the first period, with former Merrimack College superstar Stephane Da Costa's two point effort. Ex-UNH Wildcat Bobby Butler also added an assist to the first goal for his first point of the season. Da Costa now has three goals this year and earned his first NHL assist of his career.
His goal came just 16 seconds after Lucic scored the tying goal, when a shot hit Bruins defenseman Joe Corvo, got tied up in his jersey and fell out right in front of Tim Thomas. Da Costa picked up the rebound and put it through Thomas to give his team the 2-1 lead heading into intermission.
Also scoring for the Senators was Nick Foligno, who put Ottawa up 1-0 at 5:19.
Bruins forward Milan Lucic netted his fourth goal of the season, tying the game up, with a nifty backhanded, top-shelf power play goal two minutes after the Foligno goal at 7:12.
The B's had their fair share of opportunities, putting up 17 shots, while only allowing Ottawa nine. One of the best chances came when Tyler Seguin interrupted a pass with less than five minutes left, and found the breakaway. Instead of shooting though, he tried to pass it back, and that was intercepted by the Senators defense.
