Bruins vs. Avalanche: Gridlocked 0-0 After First Period

The Avalanche gave the Bruins a wake up call during the first period, outshooting the Black and Gold 13-9, though neither team let up a goal.

Bruins netminder Tuukka Rask looked sharp for the first 20 minutes, bailing out his defense when he needed to and not showing any signs of rust despite not playing in a game since April 10 of last year.

Bruins captain Zdeno Chara was responsible for two minor penalties in the period--a cross-check and a hooking penalty. However, so far the penalty kill has done its job and kept the puck out of the net.

The Bruins mustered nine shots on net, and only two players have multiple shots (Brad Marchand, 2; Patrice Bergeron, 2.) The entire first line combined has two shots on net, and Nathan Horton doesn't have any.
