Boston 3, Florida 2: Blake Wheeler, Bruins Defeat Panthers 3-2 In Shootout

Blake Wheeler scored the only goal of the shootout to give the Boston Bruins a 3-2 victory over the Florida Panthers at BankAtlantic Center on Monday night.

Wheeler's game-winning goal came on Boston's second attempt of the shootout. On the approach, Wheeler lost control of the puck, but ultimately regained control and lit the lamp.

"The puck went where I wanted it to go, but I just kind of didn't have the handle I wanted to on it," Wheeler said (via Yahoo! Sports). "It just kind of snuck off my stick there. Sometimes it's better to be lucky than good, right?"

Tyler Seguin couldn't score on Boston's first attempt in the shootout. Tim Thomas, who had 32 saves, stopped Mike Santorelli, Stephen Weiss and Evgeny Dadonov in the shootout to preserve the victory. Scott Clemmensen had 40 saves for Florida in the loss.

David Booth scored the game's first goal one minute and two seconds into the second period. David Krejci knotted the score at one 9:05 into the second period for the Bruins. That was short-lived, however, as Santorelli gave the Panthers a 2-1 lead with 4:09 left in the period. Krejci scored again with 9:25 left in the third period to tie the game.

Boston improved to 19-11-4 on the win while Florida fell to 16-17-1. The Bruins will face the Tampa Bay Lightning on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. EST (TV: Versus, TSN2).
