Boston 3, New Jersey 0: Tim Thomas, Bruins Shut Out Devils

Boston, MA (Sports Network) Tim Thomas turned aside 28 shots as Boston downed New Jersey, 3-0, at TD Garden.

Michael RyderNathan Horton and Blake Wheeler tallied for the Bruins, who also got two assists from Mark Recchi in halting a two-game slide.

Thomas bounced back from his first loss of the year -- to Ottawa on Saturday -- to improve to 9-1-0 with his fourth shutout of the season and 21st of his career.

Martin Brodeur stopped 21 shots in defeat for the Devils, who have dropped five of their last seven.

The Bruins evenly distributed their goals with one in each period.

The Bruins cashed in on a two-man advantage to score the first goal of the game at 15:26. Patrice Bergeronpassed from the left point to the bottom of the left circle for Ryder, who wristed a shot past Brodeur on the short side.

Milan Lucic fed cross ice to Horton, who took the pass just outside the Devils blue line and beat Brodeur far side from the top of the right circle just 43 seconds into the second period to make it 2-0 Boston.

Wheeler's snap shot 43 ticks into the third period ended the scoring.

Boston improved to 3-4-1 at home...Thomas earned his sixth career win over the Devils...Claude Julien won his 142nd game as the Bruins head coach to match Tom Johnson for sixth place on the team's all-time list...Julien will coach in his 500th career game when the Bruins visit the New York Rangers Wednesday. The Bruins killed off all three shorthanded situations and have been successful on 34 of their last 37 penalty kills...Brodeur suffered his 17th career loss to the Bruins in 52 games...New Jersey winger Jamie Langenbrunner missed his second straight with soreness...He is listed as day-to-day.
