After the first weekend of regular season play in men's college hockey, two Boston teams are in the top ten of both weekly college hockey polls.
Released Monday afternoon, both the USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine and USCHO.com poll have Boston College maintaining their preseason #1 ranking. The Eagles kept their spot by defeating Northeastern University in 2-0 on Saturday night, in a much closer game than the score would demonstrate.
Boston University surprised some by winning this weekend's Icebreaker tournament over Wisconsin and Notre Dame. Their performance was rewarded with a leap from the 14th spot to being tied for 10th with St. Cloud State in the USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine poll, and sole possession of 10th in the USCHO.com poll.
Other New England based teams dot the top ten. The University of New Hampshire dropped a spot from 8th to 9th in the USA Today poll and moved up a spot from 10th to 9th in the USCHO.com poll. Maine is ranked 6th by USA Today and 8th by USCHO.com.
Three Boston-area Division I women's hockey teams dot the bottom half of the USCHO.com women's poll, also released today. Boston University, a team chock full of Canadian Olympians who are 2-1, is ranked 6th. Boston College, at 2-0, are ranked right behind them at 7th. Despite being idle until October 29th, Harvard is ranked 9th.
