The UConn Huskies are set to take on the North Carolina State Wolfpack on Saturday afternoon at Rentschler Field.
UConn was as dominant as expected in their season opener against the UMass Minutemen, who were playing their first game at the FBS level in quite some time.
The Huskies rolled UMass, winning 37-0 while gaining 372 yards compared to just 59. UConn was especially impressive against the run, an area of its defense that gave up a paltry three yards on 24 carries.
Sophomore Chandler Whitmer looked somewhat average however, throwing for 219 yards while being picked off twice. Whitmer was helped out by his running back Lyle McCombs, who gained 84 yards and scored a touchdown on the ground.
The Wolfpack was disappointing in their debut, losing 35-21 to the Tennessee Volunteers in the Georgia Dome. Mike Glennon was especially subpar, tossing four interceptions that sealed his team's fate. Junior Quintin Payton was a bright spot for N.C. State, racking up 129 receiving yards on just four catches.
