UMass Vs. Indiana: Minutemen Play First FBS Game At Gillette Stadium

One opener down, one more to go. Charley Molnar and his UMass Minutemen lost to the Connecticut Huskies in the season opener, which was also the first FBS game in school history for UMass, but can still salvage one opener as they host the Indiana Hoosiers in the home opener on Saturday afternoon inside Gillette Stadium in Foxboro, MA

UMass and Indiana have never met before, and the Hoosiers are only the second team from Indiana to face UMass, as they met Ball State in the mid to late 1980's. UMass will face four teams from the Big Ten over the next three seasons. Next up on the Big Ten slate, the Minutemen will face Michigan in Ann Arbor.

UMass (0-1) was held off the scoreboard for the first time in 199 games, falling to the Huskies, 37-0. Despite the loss, the Minutemen provided the top play of the night when Darren Thellen tipped a pass out of bounds to teammate Tom Brandt for an athletic interception. The play was No. 1 on SportsCenter's Top 10 plays that same night.

Mike Wegzyn, who made his FBS debut against the Huskies, threw for just 56 yards on 9-of-22 passing to lead a problematic Minutemen offense that mustered only 59 yards. UMass did not record a first down until a nine-yard rush from Burns in the final minute of the opening half.

Indiana (1-0)m, on the other hand, was victorious in its season opener, beating rival Indiana State, 24-17, last Saturday in Bloomington. Tre Roberson paced the Hoosiers' offensive attack, throwing for a career-high 280 yards and one touchdown on 26-of-36 passing and also rushed for one score. Shane Wynn caught nine passes for 95 yards and an impressive 71-yard touchdown reception.

Saturday afternoon's game kicks off at 3:30 p.m. ET and will be aired on ESPN3.com.
