The first round of the 2012 BMW Championship is well under way and Rory McIlroy is atop the leaderboard. The 23-year-old has gotten off on the right foot in search of his second straight tour victory, firing a first-day 64 that put him in a four-way tie with Webb Simpson, Bo Van Pelt and Graham DeLaet at 8-under after 18 holes.
Tiger Woods is in fifth place, one shot back of the leaders, after shooting a 65. Woods finished with nine birdies and two bogeys on Thursday. Phil Mickelson is five back after an opening-day 69 that began with a 3-under front nine, but closed with a back-and-forth back nine that saw Lefty card three bogeys to match his three birdies.
Woodstock, Vt., native Keegan Bradley is still on the course at 1-under through 15 holes. Bradley recovered from back-to-back bogeys on 13 and 14 to post a birdie on 15.
