The Boston Red Sox and Jason Varitek may be closing in on a deal that would bring the storied catcher back into the organization, according to WEEI.com.
Varitek has only been retired for a few seasons, but apparently his love of baseball hasn't dwindled. The two-time champion is reportedly being looked at for a coaching position in the Fall Instructional League with youngsters down in Florida.
This is somewhat of a surprise, considering Varitek said the following just a little while back in July:
"It's still too early for me to make that decision. I still need to get a little of the piss and vinegar of playing out of me, and what's most important is getting my life, my family, being involved in some of the things I had missed and enjoy," he said at the time.
At 40 years old, Varitek could make a nice addition to an organization looking to redefine itself.
