The 2012 Ryder Cup takes place this week, with the first round of competition scheduled to begin Friday, Sept. 28 at Medinah County Club. Team Europe looks to defend its 2010 win, while Team USA looks for back-to-back wins on American soil after winning the 2008 event. This year's event will feature 24 of the top 35 ranked players in the world.

Although play doesn't begin until Friday, the events get underway on Tuesday, Sept. 25 when practice begins. Tuesday will also feature the U.S. past captain/celebrity scramble where past captains are paired with a celebrity. The Junior Ryder Cup Exhibition will take place on Wednesday, with a friendly 10-hole match between the European and U.S. teams. The Opening Ceremonies are held on Thursday at 5 p.m. EST and aired on the Golf Channel.

Play gets underway on Friday, starting with foursome alternating shot matches at 8:20 a.m. EST. Fourball is up next at either 1:05 or 2:05 p.m and the entire day of play can be seen on ESPN. Saturday follows the same format as Friday, but TV coverage shifts to NBC.

Sunday is the final and biggest day of play, as all 12 singles matches will be played on Sept. 30. The first match will tee off at 12:03 p.m. EST and play is expected to last until approximately 6 p.m. Whichever team reaches 14.5 points (or more) out of the available 28 points will be declared the winner.
