Another week, another loss for the UMass Minutemen. However, there were plenty of positives for head coach Charley Molnar and his squad to take away from its 27-16 loss to the Miami (Ohio) Red Hawks in the Mid-American Conference opener on Saturday.
One of the positives was Michael Cox, the fifth-year senior running back who shredded the Red Hawks defense for 188 rushing yards and two touchdowns, including a nine-yard scoring rush where he flipped over Miami (OH) safety Justin Bowers. The touchdown was Cox's first in a Minutemen uniform and the third rushing score of his collegiate career.
Cox had rushed for 108 yards in UMass' first three games, a total he nearly exceeded in the first half alone. Cox had 106 rushing yards in the first half, but UMass still trailed, 14-3.
