Missy Franklin is taking home her third gold medal of the London Olympics after an impressive performance in the women's 200 meter backstroke. Franklin dominated the field in the pool, finishing with a a time of 2:04:06, a new world record. The previous world record was owned by Zimbabwe's Kirsty Coventry, who finished with a tie of 2:04:81 during a competition in 2009.
Franklin defeated silver medalist Anastasia Zueva of Russia by 1.86 seconds. Zueva finished with an overall time of 2:05.92. Rhode Island native Liz Beisel took home the bronze with a time of 2:06.55. Beisel's time was 2.49 seconds behind Franklin.
This is Franklin's second individual gold medal of the London games. The 17-year old Colorado resident is quickly becoming one of America's breakout stars of the Olympics.
