2012 U.S. Open Tennis Scores: Maria Sharapova Wins First Match

The 2012 U.S. Open began on Monday afternoon in New York City. The final tennis major of the year is always a great one, especially with the huge number of fans that turn out each day. There were quite a few notable players in action during the afternoon session, as they waited out the rain.

No. 3 seeded Maria Sharapova won her match over Melina Czink, taking the first two sets, 6-2, 6-2.

Ninth-ranked Na Li defeated Heather Watson in two sets, 6-3 and 6-2.

No. 11 Marion Bartoli knocked off Jamie Hampton by scores of 6-3 and 7-6.

On the men's side of things, No. 3 Andy Murray made quick work of Alex Bogomolov Jr., winning 6-2, 6-4 and 6-1.

No. 17 Kei Nishikori won over Guido Andreozzi in three sets, 6-1, 6-2 and 6-4.
