Josh Beckett Must Waive No-Trade Clause To Complete Red Sox, Dodgers Trade

Josh Beckett may be holding up the blockbuster trade between the Boston Red Sox and Los Angeles Dodgers. Beckett, according to Nick Cafardo, still needs to waive his 10-5 rights -- he has been in the league for 10 years and spent five seaons with one team (the Red Sox), meaning he has a no-trade clause that includes waiver trades -- and the team reportedly hasn't heard from him yet. Cafardo writes that Beckett is expected to waive the clause, however.

News broke late Friday afternoon that the Dodgers had been awarded the waiver claim for Adrian Gonzalez, followed by news that they had also been awarded Beckett. Since then, reports have swirled that the Red Sox and Dodgers are close to completing a major trade that would send Gonzalez, Beckett, Carl Crawford and Nick Punto to Los Angeles in exchange for prospects and a few everyday players. As of 8:15 p.m. ET, the trade had not been completed.
