Adrian Gonzalez and Nick Punto have been scratched from the Boston Red Sox lineup for tonight's game against the Kansas City Royals according to Boston Globe beat writer Pete Abraham. Gonzalez and Punto have both been part of rumors involving a blockbuster trade with the Los Angeles Dodgers.
The Dodgers claimed both Gonzalez and Josh Beckett off of the waiver wire today, opening up the possibility of a deal with the Red Sox. Since then, reports have been flying of a mega-trade between the two teams that also involves Carl Crawford and Punto.
With key cogs in the deal being left out of the lineup and summoned back to the clubhouse, it's clear that something official is close for Los Angeles and Boston.
