The New England Patriots knocked out Eagles quarterback Michael Vick in the first quarter of their Monday night preseason game. Vick dropped back to pass off of play action, and Patriots rusher Jermaine Cunningham came hard at the shifty QB. Vick released the ball just as Cunningham came at his midsection, planting him to the turf at Gillette Stadium. The ball fluttered downfield. Here's an animated gif of the hit:
Vick was slow to get up, but eventually hobbled back to the huddle. But just a moment later, Andy Reid was forced to use a timeout after his quarterback went to the turf on one knee. He was taken out of the game and replaced by Nick Foles. Shortly thereafter, Vick left the sidelines to head to the locker room for further examination and X-rays. This game was expected to be a "dress rehearsal" for the Eagles, but Vick is almost certainly done for the night.
