The New England Patriots announced the release of injured offensive tackle Kyle Hix on Monday, hours before kickoff in the Patriots' preseason game against the Philadelphia Eagles.
Hix, 23, was originally signed by the Patriots as a rookie free agent out of Texas on July 27, 2011. Hix missed the entire 2011 season with a shoulder injury which he sustained in the preseason a little over a week after he was signed. Hix spent the 2011 season on the Patriots' injured reserve list.
Hix was able to practice early in New England's camp before suffering a shoulder injury on Aug. 5. He ended up missing nine practices before the Patriots released him.
Here's a look at the Patriots' current depth chart at tackle, according to Mike Reiss:
LT Nate Solder
RT/LT Sebastian Vollmer
RT Marcus Cannon
RT Matt Kopa (injured, ankle)
LT Darrion Weems
RT Dustin Waldron
LT Kyle Hill
