University of Connecticut head coach Paul Pasqualoni has named junior college transfer Chandler Whitmer the starting quarterback for the UConn Huskies as they begin for fall camp on Friday.

After redshirting at Illinois in 2010, Whitmer transferred to Butler Community College in El Dorado, Kan. Whitmer finished the season going 180-for-316 through the air for just over 3000 yards with 25 touchdowns and 15 interceptions. Whitmer was named as an honorable mention National Junior College Athletic Association All-American for his performance on the field for BCC.

After committing to the Huskies in January, Whitmer enrolled early and participated in UConn's spring practice. Whitmer gained the inside track for the starting job after outperforming his four main competitors in the Blue and White game, going 18-of-27 for 187 yards and two touchdowns.

Johnny McEntee and Michael Niebrich are named co-backups behind Whitmer with Casey Cochran and Scott McCummings rounding out the depth chart.
