Former Boston fireballer Daniel Bard will reportedly rejoin the big league Red Sox by September. Scott Lauber of the Boston Herald tweeted that a source told him to expect Bard back in the MLB by next month, if not sooner:
Daniel Bard definitely will rejoin
— Scott Lauber (@ScottLauber) August 18, 2012#RedSox by September, maybe sooner, according to team source
Bard was moved from the bullpen to the starting rotation at the beginning of the season, but he struggled mightily in his new role during the month of May and was demoted to Pawtucket at the beginning of June.
He hasn't fared much better at Triple-A, posting a 7.45 ERA with 30 strikeouts and 29 walks in 29 innings of work. As recently as Friday, he struggled with his command against the Yankee's Triple-A affiliate, blowing a 4-2 lead and allowing three runs to cross. He's allowed runs in six of his last seven appearances as he continues to struggle to throw strikes.
