The United States won its fifth straight Olympic gold medal in women's basketball Saturday, dominating France, 86-50, for the title. Candace Parker led the way with 21 points on 10-for-14 shooting, and 11 rebounds.
Team USA led by 12 points at halftime, then really blew the game open in the second half. France was outscored by 14 points in the third quarter and 10 points in the fourth. Sue Bird pitched in 11 points to the effort, and Dina Taurasi added nine points and six assists.
The French kept the game tight for much of the first half. With 7:26 left in the half they were down just 24-21. They scored just four more points until halftime, however, while the U.S. built an insurmountable lead. Edwige Lawson Wade and Sandrine Gruda led the team with 12 points each.
