Boston College Football Media Day 2012: Frank Spaziani Talks About Struggles, Team Atmosphere

CHESTNUT HILL - Frank Spaziani and the Boston College Eagles football team held their annual media day on Friday afternoon inside Conte Forum, giving reporters and fans the first chance to talk with and learn about this year's team as it prepares for the new season.

Spaziani opened up media day with his press conference at noon, in which he addressed the topic of the team's recent poor performance in the win-loss column. Boston College is coming off of a disappointing 4-8 season in which it failed to qualify for a bowl game for the first time in 12 seasons, which resulted in a lot of criticism being tossed Spaziani's way.

"The trend with wins and losses is very obvious to everybody, but the program is going north, not south," said the fourth year head coach "There are a lot of situations that have occurred, and I'm not going to revisit history. I understand where we're at and I understand that we want to win. The players understand that and we know where we have to go."

Boston College has had a declining record ever since Spaziani took over as head coach in the 2009 season. That year, the Eagles posted an 8-5 record and lost in the Emerald Bowl. The following season, Boston College declined to 7-6 (the Eagles rallied to win their final five games to clinch a bowl berth, but lost in the Kraft Fight Hunger Bowl against USC).

Spaziani did note, however, that the attitude on the team is very good even in spite of the team's struggles over the past few seasons, a sentiment which several players echoed.

"We have a tremendous attitude with our players right now," said Spaziani. "You can feel a difference in the locker room, it's a carry over and it's been from the winter. I think they understand, now we've got a lot of work to do, a lot of hard work before September 1, a lot of dog days. Right now, we're well on our way and we have to see how it all shakes out."
