Dustin Pedroia Injury Update: Boston Red Sox 2B On 15-Day DL With Sprained Thumb

Boston Red Sox second baseman Dustin Pedroia has been placed on the 15-day disabled list with a sprained right thumb, according to manager Bobby Valentine (via ESPN Boston). Valentine added that this injury, which Pedroia sustained on Tuesday, is not the same as the partially torn adductor muscle in his right thumb.

"This is not related to the other injury but it's a disabling situation, so he's going to take the 15 days -- and four of those days thankfully are All-Star break days -- to try to get better and come back to us healthy and ready to go."

Pedroia has only hit .210 since sustaining the first thumb injury in late May.

Relief pitcher Rich Hill has been moved to the 60-day disabled list to make room on the roster for infielder call-up Pedro Ciriaco from Triple-A Pawtucket.
