Josh Beckett Injury: Red Sox Starter Leaves Game With Apparent Back Injury

Josh Beckett left Tuesday's game between the Boston Red Sox and the Detroit Tigers in the third inning with a back spasm. Beckett had just walked Miguel Cabrera with the bases load to force a run giving the Tigers a 1-0 lead when he signaled to training staff to come to the mound. He shook his head as staff approached.

Beckett pitched just 2 2/3 innings. The shortened stint included one hit given up and two walks for one earned run against. In the third, Omar Infante got on base with an infield single, then Beckett loaded the bases by hitting Austin Jackson with a pitch and walking Quintin Berry.

Clayton Mortensen relieved Beckett. He has held the Tigers without a run since taking the mound, walking two with a strikeout. The Red Sox currently lead 4-1 in the bottom of the fifth inning.
