Women's Gymnastics Team Final: Aly Raisman Helps Team USA Earn Gold Medal

The team portion of the women's gymnastics competition at the 2012 London Olympic games has gone final, and for the first time since 1996 Team USA captured a gold medals. The squad, which features Needham, MA native Aly Raisman, beat out Russia and Romania, which both won silver and bronze medals, respectively.

Overall, Team USA compiled a total score of 189.596, a tally that was well ahead of Russia (178.530) and Romania (176.414).

The USA and Russia entered its final rotation in a tight race, but a fall by Russia's Anastasia Grishina on the floor exercise led to a disappointing score of 12.466 and ended the hopes of any comeback. Raisman's score of a 15.3 on the floor exercise helped Team USA cement the victory.
