2012 Summer Olympics Recap: Aly Raisman Qualifies For Women's Gymnastics All-Around

The Boston area has 23 athletes in the 2012 Summer Olympics in London. One of the most high-profile is Aly Raisman, who figures to star on the women's gymnastics team. The Needham, Mass., native pulled off an upset of sorts Sunday when she finished first in qualifying for the all-around competition. Gabby Douglas finished second. As a result, heavy favorite Jordyn Wieber was eliminated from the event. Only two members from each country's team are allowed to compete in the all-around.

Wieber was gracious despite the disappointing finish, and congratulated the team via Twitter.

Cyclist Evelyn Stevens from Acton, Mass., was one of the few area athletes competing for a medal Sunday. She finished 24th in the women's road race, however, coming in with the peloton 27 seconds behind winner Marriane Vos of the Netherlands.
