The United States Women's soccer team wasn't messing around on Saturday.
After a shaky opener against France in which it fell behind 2-0 before scoring four unanswered goals, the Americans shutout Colombia 3-0 in Glesgow, Scotland to punch their ticket to the quarterfinals.
The performance was dominant in every way, with the red, white and blue controlling play throughout. Unfortunately, the first half was marred by an incident in the latter stages, when U.S. star Abby Wambach was hit just below the eye with what appeared to be an intentional punch by Lady Andrade.
However, the Americans rose to the challenge against the feisty Colombian team, with a marker in the first half by Megan Rapinoe. After intermission, it was Wambach in the 74th minute and Carli Lloyd in the 77th to seal the deal.
Before the U.S. moves out of group play, it still has one more match remaining against North Korea on Tuesday.
