Saturday is a full day at the 2012 London Olympics, with Team USA pursuing Olympic glory in both individual and team events. In Women's Beach Volleyball Misty May-Treanor and Kerri Walsh-Jennings have a match against Australia, and the Women's soccer team will take on Columbia. A number of local athletes have their shot at a gold medal on Saturday.
Events that will see the presentation of medals on Saturday are: Swimming (Womens 4x100m Freestyle, Women's 400m IM, Men's 400m IM), Weightlifting (Women's 48kg/106lb), Shooting (Women's 10m Air Rifle, Men's 10m Air Pistol), Judo (Women's 48kg, Men's 60kg), Fencing (Women's Individual Foil), Cycling (Men's Road Race) and Archery (Men's Team.) In addition to the Women's soccer team, Team USA also sees action in Women's Volleyball, where they face Korea, and Women's Basketball, where they have a game against Croatia. That game features two athletes with local connections, Tina Charles and Asjha Jones of the Connecticut Sun.
Sarah Scherer of Woburn is another local athlete representing the USA on Saturday as she competes in the Women's 10m Air Rifle Shooting event. Elizabeth Beisel of Saunderstown, RI rounds out Saturday's local representation, swimming in the Women's 400m Individual Medley.
