2012 British Open: Ernie Els Wins As Adam Scott Falters

The 2012 British Open won't be remembered as much for who won, but rather who found a way to lose.

Ernie Els is certainly a deserving champion, playing four solid rounds of golf in tough conditions and finishing atop the field with an overall score of 7-under for the tournament. However, it was Australian Adam Scott who had what seemed to be an insurmountable lead heading down the back nine, only to become unglued.

Scott bogeyed his final four holes, including the 18th on a very hittable putt that sealed his fate.

Nobody else was even in the competitive picture by the end of the day, with Tiger Woods bowing out early in the morning. Woods made par on his first five holes of Sunday, only to shoot a triple bogey on the sixth after getting stuck in a bunker.

Local Keegan Bradley had another rough day, shooting a 73 on the final round. The Vermont native finished in a tie for 34th place.
