Rafael Nadal won his seventh French Open title after defeating Novak Djokovic on Monday in a rain-delayed championship match up with the No. 1 player in the world. Conventional wisdom said Djokovic was on the verge of taking over the game, but Nadal, being the clay court beast that he is, went against that.
The 6-4, 6-3, 2-6, 7-5 victory for Nadal broke a tie with Bjorn Borg for most titles won in the clay court major. Nadal actually trailed Djokovic 2-1 in the fourth set when play resumed Monday following an 18-hour rain delay.
Despite the fact that Djokovic had Nadal's number last year, beating him seven times, the Spaniard was not phased on the courts where he'd had his most success and where he is now the most prolific player in the tournament's history.
