2012 Belmont Stakes: PETA Wants Surveillance For I'll Have Another

I'll Have Another trainer Doug O'Neill is currently facing a 45-day suspension when it was discovered that one of his horses had excess level of total carbon dioxide which is an illegal practice. With this information, PETA has decided to get involved and request that I'll Have Another be placed on a 24-hour watch.

The request was sent to New York Governor Andrew Cuomo because the state recently took control of the New York Racing Association. PETA wants this request due to O'Neill's background as a trainer:

"Doug O'Neill's shocking record of drug violations risks horses' lives and damages the already tarnished image of thoroughbred racing," says PETA Senior Vice President Lisa Lange. "Governor Cuomo can put substance behind his promises by telling racing officials not to allow I'll Have Another out of their sight for a minute."

PETA also included other requests which include controls on medication, housing in a secure barn, blood testing and having food and water supplied by a third-party source.
