French Open 2012 Results, Round 1: Rafael Nadal, Maria Sharapova Win, Serena Williams Upset On Tuesday

The 2012 French Open saw the seeds have another good day on Tuesday and one major upset.

The No. 2 seeds on the Men's and Women's side of the draw won in straight sets at Roland Garros.

Rafael Nadal defeated Simon Bolelli 6-2, 6-2, 6-1 and Maria Sharapova took out Alexandra Cadantu, 6-0, 6-0.

The No. 4 seeds for both sides of the draw also advanced on Tuesday.

Andy Murray defeated Tatsuma Ito, 6-1, 7-5, 6-0. Petra Kvitova defeated Ashleigh Barty, 6-1, 6-2.

Serena Williams provided the only real drama of the day at the French Open when she lost to Virginie Razzano, 6-4, 6-7 (13), 3-6. The loss in the first round was the first ever loss in a first round of a major tournament in the career of Williams. With her loss and the withdrawal due to injury of Jamie Hampton, American women are now, 10-2 in the tournament.
