Compensation is still unknown at this point, but there was speculation earlier that former Red Sox prospect and relief pitcher, Michael Bowden would be headed to the Cubs in exchange for Bryd.
Bowden is a marginal player and Bryd is a struggling veteran who is owed six-plus million dollars. The Cubs would likely pay the majority of Bryd's contract.
Despite his age and struggles, Bryd is a good flier for the Sox. He's two years removed from an All-Star season and his extremely low BABIP this season suggest he's been the victim of bad luck and will improve.
