Boston Cannons Training Camp Begins

Boston Cannons season is just right around the corner. They open their season on April 28th against the Rochester Rattlers, and Saturday was day one of their journey to defend their MLL Championship.

Training camp opened Saturday in one of their three weekend training camps. The defending MLL champions do not have a ton of roster spots, with a star laden roster that includes former MLL MVPs Paul Rabil and Matt Poskay, along with secondary scorers such as Ryan Boyle and Kevin Buchanan.

Not every Cannons player will be in camp today, including Buchanan, as he is a member of the NLL's Buffalo Bandits who play in Toronto tonight. But Rabil, who is not playing this NLL season after holding out in Edmonton, will be there this afternoon.

Jordan Burke will be the goalie again this season after his Championship MVP, but they will be searching for who will back him up after Kip Turner went to the Chesapeake Bayhawks. They will be watching goalies Bruce Bickford, Chris Collins and Eric Hagerty.

The Cannons will have a strong midfield after a break out season from Pat Heim and with other players such as Matt Smalley and Brad Ross. They will miss the presence of Max Quinzani, who went to the Long Island Lizards, but they should manage.

The attack could be tops in the league, although Chesapeake and Charlotte are also strong in that area. Boyle, Buchanan and and Poskay are three elite MLL players. The secondary attack players like Kevin Gould and Jake Bebee should also contribute.

Those players should already be on the roster. Who do they have room for? Watch Thomas Burke, James Dailey, and Ari Sussman. Also watch new midfielder Brian McGlone, who will be a big help for the midfield.
