America East Player of the Year Darryl Partin and Second Team member D.J. Irving have wowed Terrier fans and opposing teams throughout the regular season. The dynamic backcourt duo did it all for the third seed Boston University in their first half of playoff basketball this season, with all but five of the Terriers points against sixth-seeded Hartford.
Boston University owns a 27-21 halftime lead over the Hawks behind 11 points apiece from Partin and Irving and nine forced turnovers. Irving hit 5-of-10 field goal attempts and added three assists, while Partin connected on 3-of-8 shots but also poured in all five of the Terriers made free throws.
Senior guard Matt Griffin added a 3-pointer for the Terriers and sophomore forward Dom Morris added two points, as Boston University shot 10-of-24 (41.7 percent) from the field just 2-of-7 (28.6 percent) from beyond the arc.
Hartford point guard Andres Torres led the host team with seven points and freshmen forward Nate Sikma added six points and four rebounds. Talented freshmen forward Mark Nwakamma pulled down nine rebounds but just two points for the Hawks.
The Terriers used a 9-0 run late in the half to open up their lead and will look to become the fourth higher seed to advance to the America East Men's Basketball Semifinals on Sunday in Hartford.
