The road has been a dangerous place for UMass all season long and that was the certainly the case in the first half in Dayton. Despite avoiding turnovers, which has been a big problem in road tilts, the Crimson's abysmal shooting from the field leaves UMass in need of a big comeback in a must-win game for their playoff hopes.
The Flyers take a 28-18 lead into the break, after UMass shot just 28 percent (7-of-25) from the field and 11.1 percent (1-of-9) from behind the arc.
Freshmen Maxie Esho is the only player with more than one made field goal, as the forward recorded a team-high eight points and five rebounds in 14 minutes. Leading scorer Chaz Williams has 0 points on 0-for-3 shooting and picked up two fouls in the first half.
Forward Luke Fabrizius led Dayton with nine points on three 3-pointers in just five minutes because of his own foul trouble (two fouls). Chris Johnson added eight points of his own for the Flyers who only shot 33 percent in the first half but did knock down 6-of-17 (35.3 percent) 3-point attempts.
