The Boston Bruins and Minnesota Wild are tied at 0-0 after the first period of play at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul, Minnesota. It was a fairly evenly played first period. The Bruins have played unevenly in the past five outings. Minnesota didn't look like a team that has lost their last seven games.
The Bruins had a 14-12 shot advantage after the first frame. Both goalkeepers were on their game and denied all shots offered in the opening frame. The first power-play of the game did not come until very late in the first period when Darroll Powe was booked for goaltender interference on Tim Thomas. The Wild were able to kill the penalty without too much danger from the Bruins power-play unit. Niklas Backstrom got plenty of help from his penalty killers with blocked shots on the lone opportunity. Boston is just two of their last 23 on the power-play.
