UMass-Lowell vs. Northeastern score update: Huskies, River Hawks scoreless after sloppy first

In the first meeting of the season between the teams, the Northeastern Huskies and UMass-Lowell River Hawks skated to a scoreless tie in the first period at the Tsongas Center. Neither team managed much sustained offense throughout the period as UML's shots on goal advantage was just 6-5.

NU senior Chris Rawlings and Lowell rookie Connor Hellebuyck were equal to the task at both ends of the ice, saving each chance that came their way. The same two teams also finished the first stanza with no score in their first meeting of the 2011-12 season on Dec. 10, 2011 at Matthews Arena with Doug Carr manning the River Hawk net for the entirety of the contest.

The best scoring chances of the period came in its middle stages as NU sophomore Adam Reid was stopped on a breakaway and UML junior Chad Ruhwedel hit the right post.
